Take a leisurely ride through the Kushiro Marsh on the Kushiro Shitsugen Norokko Train and the Fuyu-no-Shitsugen Steam Locomotive, and have a pleasant time surveying the magnificent scenery from the train’s large windows.
The Kushiro Shitsugen Norokko Train is designed to let passengers enjoy leisurely views of the marsh. Its windows are larger than on most trains to give you a wide view of the scenery outside. As the train rumbles along the Kushiro River through the marsh, a tour guide will explain the sights you can see, such as the Akan mountains, the Iwabokki floodgate, Lake Takkobu, and more. Get off at the Kushiro Shitsugen Station and enjoy even more views of the marsh at the Hosooka Observatory.
Enjoy a ride on the Fuyu-no-Shitsugen Steam Locomotive as it belches out thick smoke stacks while running through the snow-covered Kushiro marsh. Each car has a coal-burning potbelly stove, and you can enjoy roasting squid or shishamo fish sold inside the train. Look outside the windows and watch out for Japanese cranes and other wild animals. The driver will even slow down or stop at specific points to let you enjoy the sights outside.
